Well put. I still encounter a lot of professors to whom the internet is an anathema (there is one who forces her students not only to use print books for research, but to then bring those print books into her classroom to prove they used them).

Meanwhile, there is this vast pool of fascinating content free and findable -- if the students have the energy, curiousity, and skillset to use the internet properly. Getting them there is my goal when I do instruction.

Also, I'm now pondering the notion of storming the *wrong* castles. Won't that knight feel silly when s/he realizes their mistake.

Anyway, I have heard of BookCrossing (though I didn't remember it by name.) I didn't realize they let you customize the stickers. For this to work as a promotion for the library, it has to be clear it's coming from you, and you need to be able to brand it as such. But it sounds like you probably could use that website for something like this after all. YAY INTERWEBZ!!! :)

Thanks so much for the cheatsheet! I hopped over from the Learning LibTech blog (http://cynng.wordpress.com/2011/07/05/twitter-search-rss-feed/) after running a Google search.

I used to be able to read different tweets on my GReader but since I scrapped it completely and redid all my subs, I found I was unable to get a RSS of my tweets -- hence the search.

I thought this idea sounded very familar, so I Googled "found books" and came up with bookcrossing.com? Are you familiar with this site? The idea is similar, except that the inserts are tracking labels and one can track "their" book's progress (theoretically) around the world.

Bookcrossing.com has a place where you can make your own labels with an image (maybe of the library or of the library's logo), then people can register it at the site. It may be a good way to implement the idea without having to reinvent the wheel. It sounds great and is something I may consider doing at the library!
